Understanding your pupil agreement
At Accelerate School of Motoring Automatic, we like to keep things simple, clear and easy to understand.
Before getting started, please take a look through the information on our website. It explains what you can expect from us and what we’ll need from you.
If you’re 18 or over, you can agree to these terms yourself. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian will need to act as your guarantor and take legal responsibility for the agreement, including payments.
We’re here to help you become a safe, confident driver as quickly and affordably as possible.
What You Need to Start Driving Lessons
To take driving lessons on public roads in the UK, you need to be at least 17 and have a valid full or provisional driving licence with the correct details on it.
You’ll be fully covered by our comprehensive insurance while you’re having lessons with us.
Please let us know straight away if you lose your licence, are disqualified from driving, or have any changes to your health that could affect your driving.
You’ll also need to meet the minimum eyesight requirements for driving, so it’s a good idea to have an eyesight test before your lessons begin.
Driving after drinking alcohol, taking drugs, or using certain medications is illegal and means your insurance cover won’t apply.
Finances and lesson structure
We see your lessons as a complete course that builds towards your test, rather than a series of separate sessions.
Payment is usually made in cash at each lesson. Bank transfers can be arranged in exceptional circumstances, with your instructor's approval.
Our fastTrak lessons last 105 minutes and cost £85.
Test-day sessions last around 135 minutes and cost £105.
These prices apply from 1st April 2026 and may be lower if you use your own car for tuition.
You'll get personalised, one-to-one lessons in a fully dual-controlled automatic car, with flexible pick-up and drop-off within a reasonable distance.
We also offer 60-minute lessons.
Lessons are available in your own automatic car too. We can also teach in a manual car, as long as you have some basic clutch experience.
Lesson planning and flexibility
To help you make steady progress, we’ll aim to keep your weekly lessons on the same day and at the same time whenever we can.
Before booking, please have a quick look at your social plans to make sure the time works for you.
Sometimes lesson times may need to change due to instructor availability or another student’s practical test booking. If this happens, we’ll give you as much notice as possible.
Thanks for being flexible if we need to reschedule a lesson to fit in another student.
If the weather makes driving unsafe, we’ll cancel the lesson and rearrange it for another date as soon as possible.
Parents and guardians are welcome to chat about their child’s progress or sit in on a lesson, as long as this is arranged in advance. Please note that extra passengers aren’t covered by the instructor’s insurance.
Your theory and practical tests
You'll need to pass your Theory and Hazard Awareness Test before you can book your practical driving test.
We recommend getting your theory test booked and passed as early as you can.
The Highway Code is a great place to start and should be your main study resource. Lots of learners also find the D.V.S.A. 4-in-1 app really useful.
Because of COVID-19 backlogs, practical test waiting lists can be quite long. Passing your theory early means you can book ahead and avoid costly delays later on.
Once you're driving independently at the required level, we might suggest taking a short break from lessons while you wait for your test.
If you can, buying a car to practise in with a family member can be a budget-friendly way to keep building experience during the wait.
When you're ready for your test, we'll do our best to find any last-minute cancellations for you.
Practical test day & cancellations
Your practical test day is around 135 minutes in total, including a 60-minute pre-test lesson and the 57-minute test.
If your test ends early because of a dangerous fault, the full payment for the day will still apply.
Please bring your photo card driving licence and theory pass certificate, as required by the D.V.S.A. You’ll book your practical test yourself, with our guidance, after a mock test.
Your instructor can sit in on your test if you’d like them to. To help keep everyone safe, we may not be able to provide our tuition vehicle for your test if you haven’t kept up regular lessons.
We can’t take responsibility for D.V.S.A. test cancellations. If this happens, your planned test slot will be used as a regular lesson instead.
Continued training and development
Once you’ve passed your practical test, we’d really recommend booking a motorway lesson to build your confidence and sharpen your skills.
We also offer Pass Plus Extra, which includes advanced driving sessions alongside motorway training. This short course could help lower your car insurance costs, look great on your CV, and even support you in accident fault claims.
